Everyone has wondered where trash goes. There is the landfill and then every other place from parks to waterways. Waste can travel as far as the middle of the ocean and the bottom of a lake. Review a few, proven ways to save the environment and reduce your bills every year.
Stop using so many plastics
Plastic is a major contributor to waste in parks, roads, oceans and landfills. Most people see discarded plastic bags when they drive along forests or public places. To reduce this waste, use reusable cloth bags when shopping instead of disposable plastic ones. If you must use plastic, make sure that it’s reusable. You’ll have less waste to throw away every week.
Stop using cotton balls and wipes
Cotton is wasteful in the form of hundreds of disposable balls and cloth wipes. Some people use several wipes in one day, so at the end of the year, they have thrown away more than 1,000 of them. Instead, use reusable cloths to remove makeup or apply skin creams.
Stop using disposable coffee pods
Single-use coffee pods are usually not recycled and add to piles of waste in trash cans and landfills. Try a more sustainable pod-free design for your coffee pot. Buy your appliances from companies that have removed plastics from their product lines. In addition, stop using disposable plastic coffee cups in the office.
Stop using so much paper
There are people who use and discard hundreds of sheets of paper every year. Some of them are students who take notes in class while others are home business owners who go through several pads of sticky notes every day.
Instead of using paper, take your notes on a portable computer, tablet or smartphone that you can carry from one location to another. If you must use a lot of paper, make a conscious effort to recycle it instead of throwing it in the trash.
Stop wasting water
A low-flow showerhead reduces the amount of water that comes out of the wall. The quality of your showering or bathing is enhanced but not reduced. Save hundreds of gallons of water and cut your water bills by half.
People may be surprised when they look at all of the trash that they’ve accumulated throughout the year. Every person is able to cut his or her pile of waste in half. To become less wasteful, it’s important to invest in reusable items and stop buying hundreds of disposable products each year. You’ll reduce your expenses by hundreds of dollars and reduce the large amounts of waste that pollute the environment.
